In the name of the Bee -
And of the Butterfly -
And of the Breeze - Amen!
蜂と − 蝶と − そよ風の
御名によって − アーメン！

The morns are meeker than they were -
The nuts are getting brown -
The berry's cheek is plumper -
The Rose is out of town.
The maple wears a gayer scarf -
The field a scarlet gown -
Lest I sh'd be old fashioned
I'll put a trinket on.

A purple finger on the slope -
A flippant fly opon the pane -
A spider at his trade again -
An added strut in Chanticleer -
A flower expected everywhere -
An axe shrill singing in the woods -
Fern odors on untravelled roads -
All this and more I cannot tell -
A furtive look you know as well -
And Nicodemus' Mystery
Receives it's annual reply!
丘にいつもと違う顔つき −
村に溢れる貝紫の陽ざし −
朝を呑みこんでいく日の出 −
芝を染めあげていく残り日 −
傾斜には朱色の足跡と −
紫の爪跡がひとつづつ −
窓ガラスにはうるさい蠅 −

いたる所に花の気配 −
森にはかん高い斧の響き −
けもの道にはシダの匂い −
見落したのは他にもあって −
あなたもよく知るしのび足 −
こうしてニコデモの疑問は

These are the days when Birds come back -
A very few - a Bird or two -
To take a backward look.
These are the days when skies resume
The old - old sophistries of June -
A blue and gold mistake.
Oh fraud that cannot cheat the Bee.
Almost thy plausibility
Induces my belief,
Till ranks of seeds their witness bear -
And softly thro' the altered air
Hurries a timid leaf.
Oh sacrament of summer days,
Oh Last Communion in the Haze -
Permit a child to join -
Thy sacred emblems to partake -
Thy consecrated bread to take
And thine immortal wine!

I have never seen ‘Volcanoes' -
But, when Travellers tell
How those old - phlegmatic mountains
Usually so still -
Bear within - appalling Ordnance,
Fire, and smoke, and gun -
Taking Villages for breakfast,
And appalling Men -
If the stillness is Volcanic
In the human face
When opon a pain Titanic
Features keep their place -
If at length, the smouldering anguish
Will not overcome,
And the palpitating Vineyard
In the dust, be thrown?
If some loving Antiquary,
On Resumption Morn,
Will not cry with joy, "Pompeii"!
To the Hills return!

A Cheek is always redder

There seemed a purple stile
That little Yellow boys and girls
Were climbing all the while -
Till when they reached the other side -
A Dominie in Gray -
Put gently up the evening Bars -
And led the flock away -
